The Beaver is an upcoming comedy-drama film based on an original script by screenwriter Kyle Killen. The film is directed by Jodie Foster and stars Mel Gibson, Anton Yelchin, and Jodie FosterThe Beaver follows a depressed CEO of a toy company (Gibson) who dons a beaver handpuppet to communicate better with his wife (Foster) and his two sons (Yelchin, Riley Thomas Stewart). The script by Killen topped the 2008 Blacklist, a ranking of the best unproduced screenplays. Brendon Connelly of SlashFilm called the screenplay "one of the few very best screenplays [he has] ever read."
On July 29, 2010, MTV.com reported that the film is "currently in a holding pattern" with release date set December 24, 2010 given the public controversy over leaked audio of private phone messages Gibson sent to his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.In an interview with The Daily Beast in July, Killen said that he did not know if or when the film will be released, while saying he's "eager... to find out".

  filmed in Westchester County, New York and New York City.[citation needed] A portion of the movie was filmed at White Plains High School in White Plains, New York.[citation needed] Filming was completed in November 2009. Before Gibson was hired, Steve Carell and Jim Carrey were both signed on to star at different stages of production. The production cost was reportedly $20 million.
